Artist Statement, Biography & Representation for Bj. de Castro
*Printable Page

"Success follows your passion, so brave your life a smile".............bj.

There are different opinions, as to where an artist's desire is born. Some say, "a schooled regimen", and others prefer...'a gift from God', 'a natural talent', or, 'an over-active right side'. Personally, I believe that everyone is born with a specific passion to help them with a life that smiles. I encourage "I hate my life"-ers to believe in their's. Passion has no respect for time. Learning, practice, failures and success all seem to take simple moments. My passion is art. Perhaps, because the essence of art is sharing. I invite you to come share in mine and show me your own passion!

"A self-taught artist for over thirty years, I followed my passion for realism through the mediums of pencil, charcoal, pastel, watercolor and oils. My methods and techniques can be generalized into one word...'transparency'. I work with multiple layers of paint, which requires patience between applications. I find this gives me incredible depth and luminosity in my paintings. I am a true purist with my work-including, no use of masking fluids or tapes in my watercolor pieces. "What is white is the paper..." was an attraction I found through my use of charcoal and I have followed that passion through to the other mediums. Reading the eyes of animals, for years, gave way to telling stories of travels-through the portraiture of beautiful and historical places visited. I hope my art is a reminder of your own story there, or, encourages you to go make one"…bj

de Castro Studios

An artist that has stayed true to her passion and followed it for over three decades. From memories past birth, this artist has seen vivid pictures in her mind of her own completed artworks.  Like a light turned on in a dark room to the eyes, burning fingers have self-schooled an education-driven by what is seen...Realism.

Reviews for Bj. de Castro

"My browsing the web led me to your site. I love the way you take inspiration from the many beautiful places you've seen in your travels. Your paintings vividly capture the spirit of these places and make me yearn to once again meander through the cobblesone streets of Rome, or while away the hours in some French cafe! 'Memoir de Paris, France' and 'London Bridge, England' are particularly striking to me. Marvelous Creations. Glad I stopped in!" - Willow Johnson, Assistant Editor, "The Medium" Webzine.

"Hi Bj.  I received your print today.  Next to my baby Boomer, I have never seen anything with red feathers that was so absolutely gorgeous.  I truly am in awe of your ability to capture a memory so beautifully.  This print will take an honored place in my home and be enjoyed each day.  Thank you for sharing your talent with my family!" - Jo Ann Holmes

"Thank You Bj...The journey we took together to design my logo of Old Growth Oak Morgans was one that I will always treasure. You placed on canvas a picture of the devotion and passion I feel for this breed. You are not only a talented world reknown artist but a fantastic writer and friend. I cant wait to begin our next adventure!" - Wendy LeGate, Old Growth Oak Morgans, 5003 Fairview Road, Hollister, Ca. 95023, 831 801-1106

Thank you for your excellent service, Bj.  The print arrived yesterday in perfect condition.  It is, indeed, beautiful.  I will have it framed shortly.  I must tell you that the element most magnificent to my eye (I am a biologist, not an artist :) ), is the live oak tree.  I have always been in awe of the massiveness of their lateral branches, defying gravity.  By most laws of physics, they should crash to the earth long before they reach those amazing diameters.  The Morgan horse is beautiful, too, of course, and the individually painted blades of grass are just perfect.  All in all, I feel privileged to own your first print.  Best wishes for continued success.  I look forward to following your work.......Geri Guidetti, CEO and Director of The Ark Institute, a botanical Noah's ark.   www.arkinstitute.com

When I came to your website, I had to go see the Statue of Liberty.   I do not have the words to describe how that paintng moved me.  Granted, I can go overboard about the United States, but if I was a millionaire, I would help each and every military person live in luxury.  The National Anthem makes me proud everytime, but especially, when a huge football player has tears running down his face, while it is being played.  "Pride"...that is what I saw in your painting of the Statue of Liberty.  Black Cat, Zoo in San Francisco.  His eyes tell me... he is very inquisitive. He misses very little that goes on around him.   He looks kind of empty without much companionship in his life. Lonesome.  He looks like he could be gentle with the right person. All of this combined in his eyes.... he also has the look of power in his body to give him the respect he demands. - Carol Simpson, Yuba City, CA  Prima Kosta Rancho
