Encourage your 'budding Artist'

"I have a 9 year old who shows great talent. He loves animation, etc. and after we took him to see Spy Kids 3 he started to draw everything in 3-D, which I thought was great because that's not an easy concept to follow. Do  you have any tips to pass along to my budding artist?"

I have two of those, however, they are almost twenty years old, now.  When they first showed an interest in art, I went to the store and bought them a stack of sketch books (the ones that they can throw in their napsack).  They filled them up in days and I kept buying them more.  When they ran out, they would use my printer paper, so I had too!  When they got old enough to understand the internet, I turned them on to all the sites that inspire and excite!  We even found a free website and posted their work.  This gave them constant enthusiasm for the skills they were developing.  We also, took them to the Disney (and all the like) animation studios where they saw- first hand, people making a living at doing what they loved.  They couldn't believe that the artists actually got paid for drawing and coloring cartoons! ;-)   To this day, they still work at it.  Of course, they have bread and butter jobs, however, the gift will always be there for the time in their life, when they can better afford, or have the courage to pursue it.

I hope this helps...bj
