"Valle de los Caidos-Spain", watercolor.

It is one outstanding view overlooking the valley below, where I took the reference photos for this painting.  As you enter the dark main corridor-going deep inside the mountain, you pass by spot-lighted statues that are vaulted-ceiling tall!  I remember feeling very, very small.  As you reach the center, the ceiling opens up into a brightly lit space.  Watch your step!  Too many, and you will be walking on the tomb of Mr. Franco.

Original watercolor on paper.
Studio work, 1993.
18"x12" - NFS, Collection the artist.
Signed and Dated.
Framed and matted.

"Pei Pyramid, Louvre-Paris", watercolor.

It is a true indication of one's art appreciation, if they say, they 'did the Louvre in a day'. (LOL)   Impossible!  This monumental 'ode to art takes-at least, three full days and a good pair of tennis shoes.  After I finished painting the building-itself, in the background, I then over-washed it with the transparent, architectural art of Mr. Pei.   This painting tells a story in a story...the construction period, 1984-1988 (which is the fencing you see), from reference photos taken during a trip my husband took with his children, and my first-visit-there photos taken in 1992.

Original watercolor on paper.
Studio work, 1993.
18"x12" - NFS, Collection the artist.
Signed and Dated.
Framed and matted.

"London Bridge-England", watercolor.
An unexpected decision arose, as I reviewed photos taken of this famous bridge.  I found that this spectacular structure changed colors according to the time of day and atmosphere.  Pink, grey, pale blue and this daunting,  sienna.  I chose the latter, because it best depicted the season we visited-fall, of 1992, but mostly, the way I felt at the time.  We had just left the tour of the Tower and Fortress...
The Crown Jewels is a must-see for your baby-book, where the Star of Africa, the largest cut diamond in the world, sits atop the royal sceptre- displayed along side the other royal treasures.  That was beautiful, and the Armoury  was interesting.   However, the Bloody Tower and the stories the guide told at the Site of the Block, were chilling!  I will never forget the erie feeling-climbing the shoulder-width, spiraling, stone staircase to the top.  In the lower chamber of the tower, is where Sir Walter Raleigh was imprisoned (a room much more do-able) and where he wrote a History of the World, for the instruction of Henry Prince of Wales.  The ceremonial changing of the guard takes place on the Tower Green.  I loved all the red suits and big black fuzzy hats moving in unison-demanding your attention!  It's like, your Christmas decorations have come alive!
