"Baby
Red Sierra", watercolor. My husband is my most devoted fan. He was the
one, years ago, that encouraged me to move my talent to watercolors. It did not
surprise him, however, when-par for my personality, I for-goed easier firsts and chose
this detailed painting of a baby fox. (*The Tower was my first oil.) I tell
this story, because it was the beginning of my 'style' in watercolor. When people
saw this, they'd say...'watercolors are suppose to be 'watery' looking'. Well, I
knew what they meant. However, all I heard was a challenge. For me,
that's inpiration! I set out to combine my experience with seeing detail, the
brilliant transparacy of watercolors, the familiar patience needed for no-error-allowed
paper, my love for reading the eyes of animals-and eventually, our love for travel and
history. So, like all artists, I am sure, I am critical of the painting from my
growth, but it will always hold special meaning to me.
