{"id":111,"date":"2007-01-25T20:45:00","date_gmt":"2007-01-26T04:45:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bjdecastro.com\/art-blog\/2007\/01\/25\/hover-over-link-first\/"},"modified":"2007-01-29T12:18:16","modified_gmt":"2007-01-29T20:18:16","slug":"hover-over-link-first","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/bjdecastro.com\/art-blog\/2007\/01\/hover-over-link-first\/","title":{"rendered":"Hover over link first"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<h2><a title=\"View Details: Use your mouse to test emails for Scams!\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bjdecastro.com\/art-blog\/?p=94\" rel=\"bookmark\">Use your mouse to test emails for Scams!<\/a><\/h2>\n<p><!-- End Of Class Title --><\/p>\n<div class=\"small\">Wednesday 28 June 2006 @ 6:54 am<\/div>\n<p><!-- End Of Class Small --><\/p>\n<div class=\"article\">Just a reminder and\/or a tip\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6simply place your mouse over the link in your email without clicking.\u00c2\u00a0 Then look at the bottom of your application window in the left hand corner\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Here you will see the \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcactual\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 Internet address.\u00c2\u00a0 Compare it to the link that is typed in the message or the linked word.<\/p>\n<p>I.e.\u00c2\u00a0 On eBay and Paypal scam emails, the link will lead you to believe that you need to sign in and give them your account credit card.\u00c2\u00a0 However, if you hover over the word or link and look at the bottom\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6you will find that the link actually goes to some address like: 123.12.1.123<\/p>\n<p>*btw &#8211; both of the above companies will ALWAYS have your account name at the top of official and legit emails.\u00c2\u00a0 Never &#8211; \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcDear Paypal User\u00e2\u20ac\u2122.<\/p>\n<p>Most people do not understand that the first words after the www. is the domain or subdomain that they will be going to.\u00c2\u00a0 Scammers count on this.\u00c2\u00a0 So when they make these temporary sites, it is usually something like:\u00c2\u00a0 www.123.12.1.123\/memberpages\/cgi\/ebay.com<\/p>\n<p>Then\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6unknowing clickers see the word \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcebay\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 and \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcmember\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 (or the like) and think it is legitimate.<\/p>\n<p>If you don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t have the hover option in your email program for some reason, you can right click on the link and see the \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcProperties\u00e2\u20ac\u2122.\u00c2\u00a0 Or, you can go to your top menu >> Click File >> Click Properties.<\/p>\n<p>Hope this helps!<br \/>\n<font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">Bj. de Castro, Fine Artist<br \/>\nClassical Realism Paintings<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/bjdecastro.com\/\">http:\/\/bjdecastro.com<\/a><\/font><\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Use your mouse to test emails for Scams!
